A robot with two feet, two hands and an upright gait that takes the parcel the last 15 meters from the car to the front door - sounds too visionary? It's already a reality. Our cars now drive us to work without us having to lift a finger. A few years ago this seemed unimaginable, but now it's already a reality! Even in the area of hair loss, where time seemed to stand still for a long time, significant progress has been made again in recent years!
For some years now, a cosmetic type of treatment has been on the rise that works without any risks or side effects and is neither time-consuming nor painful. We are talking about micropigmentation. This is currently regarded as the best cosmetic solution for those affected. But what exactly is behind this treatment method?
In our article, we explain why micropigmentation is a good alternative to hair transplants and why many people can go through life with more self-confidence thanks to this method.
Hair pigmentation is a cosmetic procedure in which high-quality color pigments are incorporated into the top layer of the scalp to simulate the appearance of real hair follicles. Sounds all well and good, but does it really look real? Yes, micropigmentation creates unique results with the natural look of real, short-cropped hair. The result looks deceptively real and very convincing.
Even from a short distance, the impression of a natural hairline is created.
Micropigmentation can also be carried out on very light hair. The color pigments are individually matched to each hair type, so it is also possible to simulate blonde, grey or red hair.
In most cases, it only takes 3-4 sessions to achieve a long-lasting and aesthetic result. The first session is usually used to carefully approach the color tone in order to match your own hair color as closely as possible. The colors used only consist of a single pigment and therefore differ from most tattoo and permanent make-up colors, which usually consist of many different pigments. Under no circumstances should such colors be used for micropigmentation of the scalp, as the stability of the different pigment proportions in the colors is unpredictable.
After the second session, a fairly clear picture of what the finished micropigmentation will ultimately look like usually emerges. And in the last session, the transitions to real hair are optimized and the density gradient is corrected.
A session can last several hours, similar to a tattoo and depending on the size of the area to be treated. However, the pain is not comparable to that of a tattoo. On a scale of 1-10, micropigmentation is rated between 2-5, whereas the pain of a tattoo is always 5+.
Every person is unique, and so is their skin! For this reason, it is unfortunately not possible to predict how long micropigmentation will last. The color pigments last for up to 10 years, but fade more and more over time. In order to achieve a satisfactory result, it is recommended to have a refresher treatment after 3-5 years.
The cost of a treatment depends on the status of the hair loss and is estimated individually. The price depends on the size of the area to be pigmented. In most cases, non-binding and free consultations are offered before the treatments, during which the specific price can be determined. One hour normally costs between CHF 200 and CHF 300 and a complete treatment should not normally cost more than CHF 2,500.
The typical hair loss pattern in women with hereditary hair loss is thinning at the crown of the head and in the area of the receding hairline. Women rarely experience larger bald patches. However, the scalp shines through the hair more and more, causing self-confidence to dwindle. Due to the pigmentation of the thinning areas, the scalp is much less visible, giving the impression of thicker hair. Of course, the hair does not have to be shaved off first à la Britney Spears.
Good preparation is important: 24 hours before the treatment you should avoid the consumption of blood-thinning substances such as painkillers, alcohol, drugs and drinks containing caffeine.
During the first few days, you should avoid strong sunlight and contact with water. You should also avoid heavy sweating caused by physical exertion. In this way, the skin is not unnecessarily irritated and the pigments are fully preserved.
After 2-3 days you can shower, shave and use your usual skin care products as normal. However, as a precaution, you should avoid things like saunas, solariums, swimming pools or swimming in the sea for another 2-3 weeks. After that, your head no longer needs any special care - but always make sure you use good sun protection, because anything that damages your skin will also damage your pigmentation!
Micropigmentation is a real alternative for men who can put up with a "shaved look". Micropigmentation is also a cosmetic solution for women with advanced hair thinning in the crown area or the receding hairline.
