With the best will in the world, hair loss is nothing new, but has always been a part of human existence. It goes without saying that over the years a few really persistent myths about hair loss have emerged, which we naturally don't want to keep from you.
According to the American National Institute of Health, the belief in these myths is so strong that even the effectiveness of conventional treatment methods is negatively influenced by them.
So let's get started with a few of the most common hair loss myths, which will also give you some basic knowledge about hair loss.
Far from it, because hereditary hair loss, which affects most hair loss sufferers, can already show up in teenage years. But the good news is that you don't have to worry about your health if your hair starts to fall out because, as already mentioned, in most cases it's simply down to your genes.
Our tip: Keep an eye on your hair situation and react to changes at an early stage. Because the motto for hair loss is: the sooner you react, the better, as your hair situation can be maintained much better than restored.
Legend has it that bald men are the victims of their own testosterone overload. Also, these men are always more sexually active, MMA legends or war heroes. This concentrated load of manhood is simply too much for your sensitive hair, so over time it simply gives in.
Wrong thinking! The culprit behind hair loss is not testosterone itself, but what is known as dehydrotestosterone (DHT), a by-product of testosterone. It can be assumed that a high level of testosterone also increases the amount of DHT, which can at least partially be the case. However, bald patches form with both low and high levels of testosterone. Studies show that men with baldness basically have the same levels of testosterone as those without hair problems. The decisive factor is therefore ultimately the body's own sensitivity and not the amount of DHT.
What came first? The hat or the dwindling hair? Conventional science (Internet...) says that headgear puts stress on the hair and therefore promotes hair loss. The real science, however, says that this is pure nonsense.
Fun side note: This myth originated during wartime, as many young men went to war with a full head of hair and then returned a few years later with a shaved head. As the brave men always wore a helmet, the myth was born. However, it was much more due to the fact that many men were affected by genetic hair loss at a young age and the high stress levels during wartime also promoted hair loss.
Do you also love to gel your hair back or conjure up a few 360 degree curls on your head? Or do gels, mousses, waxes or sprays just make your legs weak? Well, don't worry about that, because no hair product in the world, even if you put a whole tube in your hair, can promote your hair loss. However, to avoid putting unnecessary strain on your scalp, it's best to wash it all out before you go to bed at night.
